Telegram CEO Pavel Durov announced that Telegram Premium will be launched this month. It has been rumored that Telegram will launch a Telegram Premium subscription for additional monetization and revenue. Officials finally confirmed the news today.
Telegram’s currently free features will remain free, but paid users will get additional features, faster speeds and more resources, Pavel Durov said in a statement.
Telegram has experimented with privacy-focused ads in public one-to-many channels, and the trials have been more successful than expected. However, Pavel Durov said it would be better if Telegram was primarily funded by its users through a premium subscription model. A premium subscription would make Telegram a more dynamic company, as it would have a revenue stream to help keep it afloat.
However, Pavel Durov did not disclose the price of the Telegram Premium subscription. We previously reported that the subscription costs $4.99 per month.
