Instead of replacing the entire display, Apple Stores and Apple Authorized Service Providers can now offer same-unit repairs for Studio Displays, according to a memo obtained by MacRumors.
The so-called “same machine repair” is to repair the user’s existing device, and Apple’s strategy before is that if the problem is confirmed after the repair, it may give you a new one. The change goes into effect this week, and Apple Stores and Apple Authorized Service Providers can now order parts to complete Studio Display repairs in-store (the repairs only pay for a replacement).
Launched in March alongside the Mac Studio, the Studio Display is Apple’s latest standalone monitor, positioned as a lower-priced alternative to the Pro Display XDR. The monitor features a 27-inch screen with 5K resolution, a 12-megapixel ultra-wide camera with center stage, a six-speaker sound system with Spatial Audio, a Thunderbolt 3 port, and three USB-C ports. Pricing in the US starts at $1,599.
The supply of Studio Display remains severely constrained. In the US, Studio Display orders placed today at Apple’s online store are expected to ship in 6-10 weeks, and offline stores are also very tight.
