Following the recently redesigned One Outlook public beta, today Microsoft has launched a newly designed Dictation toolbar for a number of Office applications, making it more content-focused. It features updated visuals, a more responsive user interface, and a sleeker look.
The new Dictation toolbar is narrower and finds a new location in the ribbon — it’s been moved to the side of the screen instead of the center. However, if users don’t like the new location, Microsoft also provides a setting option to bring it back to the previous state.
As part of efforts to further enhance the toolbar, Microsoft has also added responsive animations that provide visual feedback when it detects your voice. This is useful when you find it difficult to tell if your voice is being heard.
The newly designed Dictation toolbar is already available for the following Office products
- Word for Windows, Mac and the web
- Outlook for Windows and Mac
- OneNote for Windows and the web
It’s also important to note that the new toolbar is now only available to Office insiders. It’s currently rolling out to Office Insiders running the following builds.
- Windows Beta Channel version 2206 (Build 15321.20000) or later
- Mac Beta Channel version 16.62 (Build 22052300) or later
