In recent weeks, Google’s team of developers has released new versions of various of the Mountain View giant’s apps with a new interface optimized for tablets and the latest in the series is Google Clock.
In the past few hours, in fact, the release of version 7.2 of Google Clock for Android has been started, with which a new interface is introduced, already anticipated by the team of the Mountain View giant in May on the occasion of Google I/O 2022.
What’s New in Version 7.2 of Google Clock for Android
The main novelty is represented by a navigation bar that replaces the bar at the bottom while the five sections of the app are now located on the left side of the screen, with the indicators of the pill-shaped tabs in full Material You style.
Here are two images of the “old” interface:
Google Clock now uses a two-column layout when the tablet is in portrait orientation, showing the Alarm, Clock, Timer, Stopwatch, and Bedtime tabs on the left.
According to some reports, version 7.2 of Google Clock has visual bugs on folding smartphones and in particular on Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 2 with Android 12 and One UI 4.1 (some parts are empty depending on the orientation while other elements are displayed off-screen). Probably the Google team will fix this bug with the next release of the application.
- Alarm tab: Bedtime prompt/card and lists of set alarms
- Clock: Current time/date and other saved cities with FAB (floating action button) centered to the right column. UI was previously unoptimized.
- Timer: Countdown centered, but controls placed towards the right
- Stopwatch: Split times at the left and counter with counter at the right. The best UI in this update.
- Bedtime: Heavy use of cards
As for version 7.2, at the moment it does not seem to have been released globally through the Google Play Store and the most eager users to try it can download the related APK file from APK Mirror and install it manually (find the dedicated page by following this link).
