It has just been shown that the range of functions of the Google Assistant has continued to grow in recent years and now not only the settings are being cleaned up, but also the features. A feature that many users may have found very useful will soon be discontinued: reminders based on location will soon no longer be available.
The Google Assistant has positioned itself as a smart assistant that is intended to support users in many everyday situations – also as a reminder. But exactly this function is now severely curtailed because one of the most useful features will be discontinued very soon. The location-based reminders will be deleted without replacement and can therefore only be used with other assistants or Google apps.
Soon you’ll no longer be able to set reminders at locations.
Important: The option to create reminders for a certain location is going away soon. You can still create reminders at a certain time and set routines for a location. A reason for the discontinuation is not given, but presumably, it was used too little in comparison.
The time-based memories as well as the location-based routines remain, which makes the whole thing a little more curious. Because it would probably not be a hassle to keep the location-based reminders. It is quite possible that there will be a successor product in a few months, but first, you have to say goodbye to this practical function with the assistant.
