Google TV has been in action over the past few months, with various changes, releases and updates. Today, the company announced that the Google TV app is now available on the iOS app store. Now iPhone users can get recommendations from various streaming apps (that is, those you subscribe to), watch lists from their favorite stars in the “For you” tab, take a library of content with them, and watch movies and shows. Reviews and the option to use your phone as a remote for Google TV and other Android TV OS devices.
Before that, Google had a “Movies & TV ” section from the Play Store for iOS users. As of this month, the company has removed the Play Movies & TV app and updated that section with the new Google TV app. Don’t worry, though. If you already have the Play Movies & TV app for iOS, you don’t need to delete it. The app will be updated to the new Google TV app.
Android users got the experience two years before iPhone users when it was announced in September 2020. When Google Play Movies & TV was changed to Google TV for Android, the app was given a new look, making it easier to discover new content. The logo has also changed, but little else has changed.
At its Google I/O developer conference earlier this month, Google announced that Android users will be able to use the Google TV app to cast TV shows and movies directly to their TV from their Android phone or tablet. With this announcement, it appears that both Android and iPhone users can now tap the Cast button in the Google TV app and stream the signal to their TV.
Another recent news is about big screens in the home. For example, Google TV launched a personalized profile for TV users. This allows for up to 12 profiles, including a kid’s profile coming in 2021.
In addition, last year, the company redesigned the Google TV app, updated the UI (user interface), expanded the recommendation section, and added TV show and movie options. Finally, in October 2021, its screensaver-like feature, Ambient Mode, has also been updated, now with more personalized messages and recommendation cards.
