The stamping workshops of Tesla’s Shanghai, Berlin and Texas super factories are equipped with multiple die-casting machines made by the Idra Group for stamping body parts of electric vehicles.
Judging from previous foreign media reports, Tesla’s Berlin Gigafactory and Texas Gigafactory have installed multiple 6,000-ton die-casting machines from the Idra Group, while the die-casting machines are used to stamp the body parts of the electric pickup truck Cybertruck are closed. The force will be higher, and foreign media have previously mentioned that it may be 8,000 tons.
However, the latest reports from some media show that Tesla’s 9,000-ton die-casting machine will be used for stamping the body parts of the electric pickup Cybertruck. On Tuesday, local time, Idra Group shared a video of the assembly of a 9,000-ton die-casting machine, which was then forwarded by a Tesla follower. Tesla CEO Musk also responded, saying that it was a Cybertruck body.
Although Musk simply replied with two words, his short reply means that the body of the Tesla electric pickup Cybertruck will be stamped with a 9,000-ton die-casting machine from the Indra Group. It is worth noting that the Idra Group released a video clip of the 9,000-ton die-casting machine last week. At that time, foreign media mentioned in the report that it may be used for Tesla’s Cybertruck.
The Cybertruck was launched by Tesla in November 2019. It is their first electric pickup. It was originally planned to start mass production at the end of 2021, but it was then delayed and has not yet been mass-produced. In the quarterly earnings report, they have indicated that they are making progress in the industrialization of the Cybertruck, which is planned to be produced at their Texas Gigafactory in Austin.
Since the Cybertruck uses high-strength steel, the stamped body has higher requirements on the die-casting machine, and the use of a 9,000-ton die-casting machine is also expected.
Founded in 1946, Idra Group is one of the oldest companies in the global professional die-casting machine manufacturing industry. The information on the official website shows that they can manufacture large-scale die-casting machines ranging from 5,500 tons to 8,000 tons.
First-order for 6,200-ton and 8,000-ton die casting machines. The 9,000-ton die-casting machine is now being assembled, which means that the Idra Group’s ability to manufacture large-scale die-casting machines has been further enhanced.
