The new Sony Xperia 1 IV is not yet available in German stores. But there are first test reports on the new Sony flagship. With some surprises. Because with the hardware of the EUR 1,399.00 expensive flagship, Sony seems to be saving in one place or another.
Allegedly, the new Sony Xperia 1 IV uses three 12 MP sensors. But that doesn’t seem to be quite right, because the new variable zoom camera is said to have a 40 MP sensor installed. And this is no stranger, it is said to be the Sony IMX650.
This has been known for years and already provided good pictures in the Huawei P30 Pro in March 2019. And the Sony IMX557 sensor should also continue to be used for the main camera. And this sensor is also 3 years old and was already used in the Sony Xperia 1 II and Xperia 1 III.
The results come from the HWiNFO app, which reveals the names of these sensors. However, it can also be an error when reading out the camera hardware. Or, Sony simply makes a 12 MP crop from the 40 MP sensor and uses pixel binning for it. Let’s see if Sony comments on this.
