Brave, provider of the browser of the same name, and Guardian, maker of the Guardian Firewall and VPN, are now also working together on Android. The Guardian Firewall + VPN is integrated directly into the Android browser. This initiative is not necessarily unique, but rather typical of the current trend – Opera, for example, is doing a very similar thing.
Similar to Opera with VPN Pro, Brave and Guardian not only want to offer security in the browser but potentially for the entire system. A similar partnership had already been scheduled for iOS. So now it’s Android’s turn. System-wide firewall and VPN security are priced at $99.99. If you don’t want to commit yourself for a year, you can shell out $9.99 a month. Starting with Brave version 1.39 from the Play Store, this option should be available.
The subscription can be used on up to five Android devices at the same time. Of course, the Brave browser must also be installed on each device. Not only is the IP masked, but tracking is made more difficult by encrypting the data traffic and advertising is blocked. Traffic is then rerouted via the encrypted VPN through the Guardian servers. Even Brave and Guardian don’t want to know the exact identity of the user, since changing, randomly selected identifiers are assigned. So they want to offer you more data protection and privacy than some of the competition.
The firewall and VPN for the Android version of Brave will be launched worldwide within the next few days. If you don’t see anything in the app yet, just wait a little longer. Your device must be running at least Android 8 for access. In the desktop version, Brave wants to provide the functionality made available together with Guardian within the next few months, as is broken down in a current blog post for its users.
