The CEO of CD Projekt RED, Adam Kiciński, seems to have indirectly confirmed that Cyberpunk 2077 will receive a single expansion, where previously there was talk of “expansions”, in the plural, therefore more than one.
During a Q&A with investors, the CEO of the Polish company talked about how future games will be made with the help of the Unreal Engine, with which the developers are making excellent progress with the new The Witcher, while the last project realized with the proprietary graphic engine Red Engine will be the “expansion” of Cyberpunk 2077, in the singular.
“The Cyberpunk expansion will be the last project based on the Red Engine,” said Kiciński. “Any other project will be carried out with Unreal”.
This statement would therefore seem to confirm that the expansion of Cyberpunk 2077 already announced, and of which the first details have recently appeared on the net thanks to a leak, will be the first and the last. A sign that perhaps the studio has decided to cut plans for any other previously planned DLC, as fans of the series have already feared for some time.
Cyberpunk 2077 was an extremely troubled game and the bulk of the efforts of the developers after launch was dedicated to fixing the countless bugs and performance problems, as well as to make the PS5 and Xbox Series X | S versions, thus slowing down the work for the expansions.
Consequently, it is not excluded that CD Projekt has decided to make only one expansion, setting aside plans for further DLC to focus on future projects with the Unreal Engine 5, including the new The Witcher.
