Cyberpunk 2077 continues to catch up: the arrival on PS5 and Xbox Series X and S has doubled the profits of CD Projekt for the first quarter of the year, which ended on March 31, 2022. The numbers speak of total revenues of 216.1 million Polish złoty (47.01 million euros at the current exchange rate), with a growth of 9% year on year.
Revenues are broken down as follows:
- CD Projekt Red – 179.3 million złoty (about 39 million euros at current exchange rates)
- GOG – 40.4 million złoty (about 8.79 million euros at the current exchange rate)
Operating costs were 83.2 million złoty (about 18.10 million euros at current exchange rates), about 10% less year over year. Earnings before taxes and interest were 85.3 million złoty (about 18.56 million euros at the current exchange rate), marking a growth of 98% year on year.
Net profits were 68.9 million złoty (about 14.99 million euros at the current exchange rate), which is a 112% growth, more than double those of the first quarter of 2021. Net profitability was 31.9%, against 16.4% the previous year.
It will not escape most that in the period given the most relevant event for the company was the launch of the PS5 and Xbox Series X and S versions of Cyberpunk 2077, along with a major update for all platforms.
According to what was said by the CEO of CD Projekt, Adam Kiciński, the launch of the new versions has had a positive effect on the perception of the game and on sales in general, especially on consoles. Cyberpunk 2077 is responsible for most of the revenues of the period.
In a chart shown to investors, it was revealed that between January 1, 2022, and February 14, 2022, sales of Cyberpunk 2077 were concentrated on PC. Between February 15 and March 31, 2022, sales doubled, with most done on PlayStation and a significant portion on Xbox. Sales on PC remained unchanged.
