Samsung is transferring hundreds of Samsung Display employees to its chip packaging business, according to people familiar with the matter. According to The Elec, people familiar with the matter said that employees under the age of 37 can apply to change departments, and Samsung Electronics is processing Samsung Display employees’ transfer applications, which are expected to be completed in the second half of this year.
The report pointed out that this is the third time Samsung Electronics has made personnel adjustments to Samsung Display in the past two years, and it also made similar transfers in the first half and second half of last year. Samsung Display is exiting the liquid crystal display (LCD) business and therefore needs less manpower, while Samsung Electronics’ chip business needs more manpower due to a lack of talent.
It is reported that Samsung Display originally planned to end the LCD business by the end of 2020, but according to the requirements of the Samsung Electronics TV business unit, it is still operating some production lines. The L8 line, the only one still in operation, will also end production by the end of next month.
