Last month Microsoft released a preview firmware update for Windows Insiders, the main highlight of the update is to provide Surface Laptop Studio support for dynamic refresh rates, allowing the laptop to run at 60Hz and 120Hz and dynamically changing its refresh rate in between to improve battery life.
After a brief test, Microsoft has now made the Surface Laptop Studio’s dynamic refresh rate feature available to users on the Stable channel as part of the May 2022 firmware update.
What’s included in the May 2022 firmware update for Surface Laptop Studio:
- The update enables Windows 11 ‘s dynamic refresh rate and improves general graphics stability
- The update improves the touch experience
- This update improves the performance and stability of the Surface Dock and Surface Pen
The May 2022 Update for Surface Laptop Studio is available for download from Windows Update on devices with Windows 10 20H2 and newer. According to Microsoft, there are no known issues with this update.
After installing the update, users can enable dynamic refresh rates in the Advanced Display Settings section of Surface Laptop Studio. Previously, the notebook allowed a choice of 60Hz or 120Hz, with no intermediate values. It is worth mentioning that the dynamic refresh rate is only available on Windows 11, of course, the notebook itself is also pre-installed with this system.
Interestingly, the Surface Laptop Studio isn’t the only Surface PC with a high refresh rate display, the Surface Pro 8 also has a 120Hz display, but it doesn’t support dynamic refresh rates.
