The arrival of Android 13 will also bring interesting news for Google Pixel Launcher, which, as we had already anticipated, will see a renewal of the search functions; while waiting for those changes to be implemented, a first taste of the news comes directly from the Google app.
Search change face on Google app (Android 13 only)
The renewal was seen for the first time following the installation of the 13.20 beta version of the Google app: by opening the application and tapping on the Search field, you can see a new list of suggestions with automatic completion and previous history/queries. In truth, this is not a renewal strictly linked to the new beta version of the app, but an A / B test whose diffusion is not yet particularly wide.
As you can see from the comparison screenshots below, the new design undoubtedly favors clarity, as each individual tip is placed on a separate card (only the first and last have two rounded anchors). The icon on the left that allows you to distinguish the suggestions from the history is in turn placed in a circle, with the individual results taking up a little more space.
The previous design had remained unchanged for years, so this change, more in line with the dictates of the Material You are so dear to Google, is appropriate and seems to go in the right direction of simplifying user interactions. This new design will also be repurposed on the Google Pixel Launcher for searching on the device.
How to update the Google app
Google app beta version 13.20 is already available for download on the Google Play Store, for the stable channel, it will probably be discussed again next week. It is good to reiterate that the one examined is a change subject to an A / B test, therefore the installation of the aforementioned version does not guarantee its presence; moreover, the novelty is only visible on Android 13, and no changes have been noticed on Android 12 and earlier versions.
