The next season of Rainbow Six: Siege, Operation Glare, is about to introduce a new “pre-emptive” mechanic to the RFF system, which will prevent players from intentionally hurting teammates in a row.
The “Rainbow Six: Siege” RFF system is an anti-teammate damage system introduced by Ubisoft for the game in 2019. Simply put, if a player repeatedly damages a teammate in a game, the system will be triggered. During the rest of the game, Player damage to teammates will be reflected back to themselves.
However, there is a problem with this system. After triggering, the time limit can only be maintained until the end of the current game. After the next game, players can at least hurt one teammate before triggering the system. But the new “pre-emptive” mechanism will impose longer sanctions on those who try to bypass the system until they correct it.
The new “pre-emptive” mechanic means that now the game will remember if the player is a bad teammate, it will be notified on the offender’s main menu, the RFF system will be active for the next 20 games, and will Disarmed after multiple matches when players haven’t hurt teammates.
Teammate damage has always been an issue with Rainbow Six: Siege, one of the few games to have friendly damage enabled. Some players have been calling for Ubisoft to reduce friendly damage or shut it down entirely for years, but the studio has taken a strong stance that learning how to shoot at enemies rather than teammates is an essential skill in Rainbow Six: Siege. There is no compromise.
