For Google, RCS is the answer to WhatsApp and Co., only much simpler and more universal. However, they are currently struggling with a spam problem. In its own Messages app, Google offers the so-called RCS as a chat function. RCS is the modern successor to SMS and does not require a separate account to use it, just the right app and a SIM with a phone number.
Filter for spam, unfortunately, does not filter anything
However, this circumstance also seems to make RCS susceptible to spam attacks. At least that’s what colleagues report, who are literally being bombarded with advertising. With over 500 million active users, Google’s RCS system is of course a formidable target. According to previous information, the integrated feature for better protection against spam does not seem to work.
The problem is not entirely new, but it seems to be growing. Basically, it should work like SMS spam, only thanks to the more varied RCS options with colorful graphics, links, etc.
If you’re wondering just how bad the ads in Google Messages can get, I got all these in just the last 7 hours. Amazing.
No normal consumer should have to face this on a basic & necessary phone app.@lockheimer, is this what RCS & Chat features are meant to be? https://t.co/a2i7H6xRYW pic.twitter.com/KqxFATDwwG
