In a recent article at Google, it is now stated that starting today, images in Gmail can be equipped directly with alt text before they are sent via the service – i.e. a brief description of the image content so that screen readers can also do something with it. The function is already being distributed, but it may still take a while before the new feature is officially received by all users.
