Audi announced today that Apple Music will be available directly in the infotainment systems of a large number of its vehicles through a software update. Apple Music integration will allow Audi owners to access their personal Apple Music library directly on the vehicle’s Multimedia Interface (MMI) screen, as well as directly access the online music library using the in-car data connection, without the need for Bluetooth, wired connection or Apple Music CarPlay.
To activate Apple Music, users must open the Apple Music app on the Audi infotainment system, follow the on-screen instructions to log in with their Apple ID and enter a verification code sent to their phone.
Christiane Zorn, head of product marketing at Audi, said:
The integration of Apple Music into the audio infotainment system marks the next step in the partnership between Audi and Apple. For our customers, this means we provide them with direct access to their own personalized listening experience. This is our understanding of a premium digital in-car experience. At Audi, we are systematically driving the digitization of vehicles, and we believe that the interior is increasingly becoming a third living space.
In Europe, North America and Japan, Apple Music integration will roll out to “almost all” existing 2022 model Audis via automatic over-the-air updates and will come as standard on many new Audis. In Europe, mobile data streaming charges are billed through data packages provided by Cubic-Telekom, and the first 3 GB are free.
Audi isn’t the first automaker to integrate Apple Music directly into its infotainment system, with Porsche first announcing the feature in 2019 before expanding to other services like Apple Podcasts. Likewise, Mercedes-Benz started rolling out Apple Music integration last summer.
