Apple is widely expected to update the AirPods Pro this year, with various insiders offering similar AirPods Pro 2 launch claims for the product. According to one analyst, it will be the second half of 2022. Or according to another insider – fall 2022.
And another whistleblower has a different view on the matter, which involves the iPhone 14. The AirPods Pro 2 may share the launch event with this year’s iPhone 14. But this obviously only happens if everything is in place.
AirPods Pro 2 launch schedule
A leaker named LeaksApplePro summed up his expectations for Apple’s iPhone 14 event.
He noted that Apple has some internal plans for “Week 37” in 2022, and also noted that Apple may hold a mid-September press conference on September 13. This is also the date the media speculated in previous iPhone 14 reports, which makes sense given Apple’s past iPhone launches.
The tipster reiterated most of the iPhone 14 rumors out there regarding design, specs, and price. But Apple should announce at least one other product at the event, the Apple Watch Series 8. The new watch line is said to include three models: the regular Series 8, the new Apple Watch SE, and the more rugged Extreme edition.
It was in this context that this insider brought up the launch of the AirPods Pro 2.
If Apple returns to live events, new wireless earphones could be launched alongside the iPhone 14. Apparently, Apple has yet to make a decision on the matter. By hosting an online event, Apple will be able to hold multiple events in the fall. This is what the company has done in recent years. If so, the AirPods Pro 2 may not debut with the iPhone 14 series.
Should I wait for the new AirPods Pro?
You’ve seen reports about the AirPods Pro 2 for months, and they all offer similar claims. The new wireless earphones will offer more improvements than the current model. The list includes a new design, support for fitness tracking and a new codec, as well as bringing lossless audio to AirPods for the first time.
LeaksApplePro mentions some of its features in the report. He noted that the AirPods Pro 2 will be “the biggest innovation in wireless earbuds since the original AirPods.” He lists support for lossless audio, a feature the whistleblower has detailed in a previous report. Clearly, Apple wants to introduce a new codec to make lossless audio possible on the AirPods Pro 2 and the new AirPods Max 2.
In addition to the new AirPods Pro, Apple will reportedly launch another Max model this year.
In addition, the whistleblower also mentioned the AirPods Pro 2’s new handleless design and “state-of-the-art” noise reduction. More interestingly, he said that Apple has been testing a prototype case with a USB-C port instead of a Lightning port.
Recent reports claim that Apple plans to move all of its devices to USB-C, including the new iPhones in 2023. Finally, LeaksApplePro speculates that the AirPods Pro 2 could cost $299, which would make them more expensive than current models.
