With the Apple Watch Series 7, all good sources (even those with an almost 100 percent hit rate) were sure we were getting an edgy design, as Jon Prosser showed exclusively in the render images a few months earlier.
But it turned out differently, very differently. It didn’t have the old design nor the expected design, it was the old design with a larger display. I wouldn’t call it new, but Apple likes to use such changes for several years.
Apple Watch Series 8 with a new design?
With the Apple Watch Series 8, the angular design was not in the room until now. Jon Prosser is back, although not directly as a source. He holds back and only reports on one source – but has fresh render images ready for us.
Personal assessment: No, not coming. The angular design sure exists somewhere, there were too many good sources for that. But Apple typically uses design changes for at least two years, and that was definitely one for the Series 7.
That being said, there’s a lot planned for 2022 and demand continues to be good, so why roll out the design now. If it comes, and I can well imagine that in the long term, then at the earliest with the Series 9 from 2023.
