In seven months, no smartphone could convince me more than the Google Pixel 6 Pro. However, the long-term test also revealed a few weaknesses. While some of the predecessors still had very serious weaknesses, the Pixel 6 Pro in particular is a really good smartphone. After the sometimes serious bugs in the software were fixed. At some point, I switched to the Pixel 6 Pro in everyday life because it seems a bit faster and the display is better. However, most weaknesses and strengths apply seamlessly to both Pixel 6s.
- The brightness of the display is regulated very strangely: If I go straight out into the sun, the display of my Pixel 6 Pro does not get completely bright. I have to manually adjust the remaining 15 percent. A rather strange error that I only noticed in the summer. But the automatic adjustment is sometimes faulty or at least sluggish.
- Device size: Google doesn’t offer a small option, the two Pixel 6 models are monstrous. Manufacturers such as OnePlus show that the same display size can also be more compact and organic.
- Display rotation: The display often reacts very slowly when it is supposed to rotate the screen content. In addition, there are probably bugs in some apps that can drive me crazy.
- The camera impresses every day: Not much to say, the Google camera is pretty damn good. And sometimes she even manages to be particularly surprising when the automatic post-processing gets everything out of a motif.
- The design stands out: I still think it’s nice to look at the Pixel 6 phones. The available colors don’t bore me either, they seem almost unique in the street scene.
- It works: The no further overloaded software works very well every day. The Pixel 6 Pro runs a little smoother than the Pixel 6. No hangs, no stuttering – that’s fun and so much better than Pixel 5 and other predecessors!
- Tensor features and Assistant: I use some things like assistant voice typing more often and also get excited about the assistant answering machine (call screen). I also miss the live display on other devices.
- Pixel Feature Drops and New Updates: Finally, I’m a fan of Google’s current update strategy of quarterly feature updates and access to upcoming Android versions. Definitely more interesting for me as an early adopter than for others.
- Battery life: It’s okay. But above all, it is always the same for me. There were never any negative surprises when the battery suddenly ran out very quickly. Which also speaks for software that works more stable than ever before.
- Unlock: For me, the fingerprint sensor now works very well and is stable. However, I miss a combination with face unlock, which should come at some point, to unlock the device even more seamlessly and quickly.
