Things were back to normal in April after the Xbox Series X/S topped the US console sales charts in March, according to statistics released today by NPD. The PS5 led in dollar sales in April, as retailers appeared to have more consoles in stock last month than they did for most of 2022. Next is the Xbox platform, and then Nintendo.
The Switch did lead the month in unit sales, however, and NPD says it now surpasses Sony’s PlayStation 4 in lifetime sales in the US, making it the fourth-best-selling console of all time, behind the PS2, Xbox 360 and Wii.
According to NPD analyst Mat Piscatella, industry spending is still well above its usual pre-pandemic level, but data from Sensor Tower shows spending on mobile games is down 10% from the same period in 2021.
