Among the financial data released by Sony in these hours, there is also that relating to subscribers to the PlayStation Plus service, which currently has 47.4 million subscribers, thus recording a slight decrease compared to the data for 2021.
At the end of the previous fiscal year, in March 2021, the subscribers registered on PlayStation Plus were 47.6 million, therefore there is a decrease of about 200,000 users. Obviously, this is a slight amount compared to the total count, but it indicates a reversal of the trend as regards the performance of the service, which is found to regress instead of expanding as done previously.
Similarly, the monthly active users of PlayStation Plus also drop: according to the data relating to the conclusion of the fiscal quarter in March 2022, the MAUs on Plus is 106 million, while in the previous fiscal year they had been 109 million, therefore a decrease in line with the overall decline in subscribers.
At this point it remains to be seen the impact that the revolution of the new PlayStation Plus will have, arriving in June 2022, with the introduction of the new Essential, Extra and Premium tiers and the new prices provided with related bonuses. Along with an eventual increase in PS5 production, the change is expected to have positive effects.
On the other hand, Sony expects a significant increase in revenues from sales and network business of + 34% during the new fiscal year, thanks mainly to the increase in the sale of consoles and third-party games. This morning the updated data relating to PS5 sales were also reported.
