Google offers a really good translator app for Android phones that can be used without an active internet connection. Especially outside the EU borders, mobile internet can get expensive. So you might not do it on vacation if it’s not absolutely necessary. But that doesn’t mean that you have to do without all the apps that you would like to use in everyday life.
Google translator also translates many languages offline
For example, there is a very simple trick for Google Translate. You can download languages that you want to translate to your device beforehand. To do this, you simply select one of the languages, regardless of whether it is the input or output language. In the opened list you can download all the languages that have the down arrow icon. After the download, locally saved language pages can be recognized by the tick.
Language packs hardly require any data storage
As you can see, the download is not available for all language packs. This is probably due to the fact that Google is working on special language packs that require as little memory as possible. However, this does not seem to have been implemented for all languages so far. However, the offer is gradually growing. You can assume that. At the time of writing, 64 languages were available for download.
When this article went live, Google gave the Android translator a visual overhaul. At the same time, there were new widgets for the start screen so that the translator app is even more convenient to use. Google has been working on this app for many years to make it even better. There is hardly any need for alternatives. Although I also like to use deepl.com for longer texts.
