The game industry is still in the midst of acquisition turmoil. In the recent report of Embracer Group’s acquisition of Crystal Dynamics, Eidos-Montréal, and Square Enix Montréal studios, it was officially revealed that the Tomb Raider series had sold 88 million copies. Crystal Dynamics studio head Scot Amos also revealed that 38 million of those were from the Tomb Raider reboot trilogy.
This means that “Tomb Raider” (2013), “Rise of the Tomb Raider” and “Shadow of the Tomb Raider” accounted for 43.18% of the total sales of the series. In mobile games, Lara Croft and Lara Croft have combined for 53 million paid downloads. The developers are currently working on a new Tomb Raider game that uses the Unreal 5 engine.
Crystal Dynamics is also working on Perfect Dark with TheInitiative (the latter confirmed the partnership has not changed). The report also revealed other interesting news, including EidosMontreal studio head David Anfossi confirming that they are working on “several projects” using Unreal Engine 5.
