The infotainment systems found in modern cars feature screens of various sizes and aspect ratios, but lately, the trend in the market is shifting towards the widescreen format. Thanks to recent Android Auto updates, some Hyundai vehicles with widescreen displays now support full-screen viewing.
Android Auto now supports widescreen viewing on some Hyundai vehicles
According to reports on Reddit, a 2021 Elantra model that offers a large screen along the top of the dashboard supports wide viewing after the latest Android Auto update, whereas previously the screen only took up about two-thirds of the display.
User Reddit claims that he used Android Auto via cable and turned on the developer option “enable split-screen”, furthermore he also reported that his Android Auto AAWireless wireless adapter was not working after the update until the “passthrough” mode was enabled.
Google introduced widescreen support in Android Auto in early 2021 for select Mazda, BMW and Skoda vehicles. In widescreen mode, Android Auto is able to show widgets at the edge of the display while displaying other apps in the main section.
AutoEvolution claims that some Kia vehicles are also getting support for wide displays from Android Auto, which wouldn’t be surprising given that Kia shares an infotainment system similar to Hyundai’s.
There is currently no official list of which cars have been updated, however, it is almost certain that other Hyundai vehicles produced from 2021 onwards with these wide displays are eligible for such an update.
