The launch of the Overwatch 2 beta on April 26, 2022, has started a new trend on Twitch that has already conquered users, thanks to the hype generated in recent months: a day of Open Beta PvP was enough to allow the category to exceed its previous record of viewers on Twitch since its launch in 2015.
As taken by Dexerto, 24 hours after the doors to access the overwatch 2 beta opened, blizzard’s FPS title captured viewers on the purple platform thus reporting its best numbers ever.
Looking in detail at the data collected by analysts, in fact, the Overwatch category reached the peak of over 1.46 million simultaneous viewers, thus surpassing the previous record of 460,000 viewers recorded in January 2018 with the inauguration of the Overwatch League.
Driving this success were the streamers themselves: Felix “xQc” Lengyel broke his all-time viewership record to 310,000 people connected simultaneously to his stream, while Asmongold reached nearly 88,000 viewers and LIRIK recorded a recent peak for his channel with 38,413 viewers.
Considering that big names like Pokimane and a significant amount of minor streamers have also climbed on the overwatch 2 bandwagon, reaching almost one and a half million simultaneous viewers was inevitable.
However, this was not enough to break Twitch’s absolute records, given that Fortnite is still unreachable with its 2.28 million viewers, followed by Minecraft with 1.93 million and CS:GO with 1.91 million. Who knows if the actual launch of the game will see a new boom.
