Microsoft is currently testing a new security feature for its users in its Edge browser. The service is called Microsoft Edge Secure Network. When users use Microsoft Edge’s secure network, Edge routes their data through an encrypted tunnel to establish a secure connection, even if they use a non-secure URL that starts with HTTP.
This makes it difficult for potential attackers to access browsing data on a shared public Wi-Fi network. Online businesses may use location and IP address to create profiles and send targeted advertising.
With Microsoft Edge Secure Network, users can browse with a virtual IP address that masks the IP address and replaces geolocation with a similar regional address to make it harder for online trackers.
A VPN, so to speak. Interestingly, however, Microsoft does not rely on its own technology, instead, it uses Cloudflare. Users get 1 GB of traffic per month for free when they’re signed in to Edge with their Microsoft account.
Cloudflare is committed to data protection and collects a limited amount of diagnostic and support data to provide the Services. Cloudflare is permanently deleting the diagnostic and support data collected every 25 hours, Microsoft said.
