Google Workspace is a solution much appreciated by companies, as it offers the possibility of managing the devices of their employees with great simplicity and in the past few hours an important novelty has been introduced: in fact, the power of administrators has been increased with regard to the management of Android applications.
This was announced by Google’s team of developers through an official blog post, explaining that Google Workspace administrators can now specify how Android apps are updated, thus having more control over how applications are distributed.
Important news for admins in Google Workspace
In particular, administrators now have the ability to decide whether apps should be updated immediately or later, with respect to all devices within their organization.
Until now, the default behavior for app updates in the managed version of Google Play depended on whether the device was connected to a Wi-Fi network, was charging, and wasn’t actively used.
Administrators can now choose between a High Priority Mode (the app is updated immediately after the developer publishes a new version) and a Postponed Mode (the application is automatically updated 90 days after the release of a new version when a device is connected to the Wi-Fi network, is charging and the app is not in use) and these settings can also be applied to a single group within the own organization (thus having even greater control).
This is already being released but you may need to wait up to 15 days before it reaches all affected users (i.e. Google Workspace Business Plus, Enterprise Essentials, Enterprise Standard, Enterprise Plus, Education Fundamentals, Education Standard, Teaching and Learning Upgrade, Education Plus, Frontline, G Suite Business and Basic, Cloud Identity Premium customers).
