The Verge article said: “When Apple is still selling after months of discontinuation of the original $299 HomePod, this is strange. But now, it’s starting to make sense — not only are some people still willing to pay a premium for this slightly smart speaker, but they’re willing to pay more than Apple charges.
The Verge took a look at eBay’s sales figures after seeing a tweet from 9to5Mac editor-in-chief Chance Miller, and they quickly realized that it wasn’t just a joke: An Apple HomePod had sold for an average of $375 over the past week. That’s 25 percent higher than what Apple charges.
Sure, some HomePods are more valuable than others — a used speaker without a box may only sell for $220 after deducting eBay fees, but we’ve seen some factory-sealed, non-refurbished HomePods sell for more than $500.
When expensive sealed boxes were filtered out, the device sold for an average of nearly $350 over the past week. that’s still $50 more than their brand new price.
