In a few months’ time, World of Warcraft players will be able to return to the icy realm of Northrend. Blizzard has in fact announced World of Warcraft: Wrath of the Lich King Classic, which is a faithful reproduction of the original expansion of 2008, and will be available during an unspecified period of 2022. In the player above you can admire the first official trailer.
Like the previous versions of WoW Classic, also in this case we are talking about an experience designed for the most nostalgic players, with the expansion that will maintain all the characteristics of the original debut with some small changes. Those looking for an unprecedented experience will instead be satisfied with World of Warcraft: Dragonflight, the new expansion coming in the near future.
In World of Warcraft: Wrath of the Lich King Classic the heroes of the Alliance and the Horde will have to join forces to defeat the Lich King who threatens to become the only true ruler of Azeroth and wipe out all life on the planet.
Blizzard has shared details about the content and features peculiar to this new edition of WoW Classic, which we report below:
- The Gloomy and Icy North – Players will begin their journey in one of Northrend’s two initial zones, Borean Tundra or Howling Fjord, from which they will enjoy some of the most beautiful views and the most immersive stories of Warcraft, until they reach the Lich King’s seat of power, in Icecrown.
- The Rise of the Death Knights – Available to both factions starting at level 55, the Death Knight, the first heroic class in World of Warcraft, harnesses the power of darkness to fight against the evil that threatens Azeroth. In Wrath Classic it was possible to create only one Death Knight per server and it was necessary to have a level 55 character on that server to create it, while this requirement will no longer be there for the creation of the first Death Knight.
- New Profession: Inscription – This new profession allows players to engrave mystical glyphs that modify the properties of spells and abilities (recovery time, damage inflicted, etc.), as well as to create powerful jewelry and accessories.
- Unlocked Feats – Feats arrive on WoW Classic, providing players with new rewards for their achievements and achievements.
- Expeditions and Raids – Relive key 5-player expeditions, such as Azjol-Nerub and Culling of Stratholme, and besiege Naxxramas in a 25- or 10-player raid, an update to the original 40-player version featured in the World of Warcraft pre-expansion.
- Included with World of Warcraft subscriptions – As with WoW Classic, anyone with a World of Warcraft subscription can also play Wrath of the Lich King Classic at no additional cost.
Here are the changes made compared to the original:
- Upgrade to level 70 – The maximum level will become level 80. We’ll introduce an instant upgrade to level 70 so that anyone who hasn’t played Burning Crusade Classic but would like to play Wrath with their friends or explore Northrend can do so right away. Only one upgrade per account will be available and can be used on any class except the Death Knight.
- No Shipment Search – Players rediscovering Wrath of the Lich King Classic will not find the Shipment Search feature, originally added with patch 3.3.5. We understand from our Classic community what the importance of social bonds is as part of what made Classic their favorite game, and we agree.
- Personal Arena Rating – Over the course of Burning Crusade Classic, our PvP community made it clear that they would prefer the flexibility of a personal PvP index, rather than tied to a team, so we’ll remove Arena Teams in Wrath Classic.
- Improvements to the Barber Shop – Since the Barber was added during Wrath, World of Warcraft has added several customization options, including some that were originally paid services. We’ll incorporate all of these improvements into Wrath Classic, instead of going back to the 2008 situation.
