The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt will also be released on PS5 and Xbox Series X and S, as well as in a renewed version also on PC. The project has not been canceled and is not in a so-called “development hell”, which indicates a highly problematic situation.
This was stated by Michał Nowakowski, the senior vice president of business development at CD Projekt, during a meeting with investors, who wanted to clarify the point.
Nowakowski: “Looking at the titles that have popped up here and there on the internet, I saw one that caught my eye, namely “The Witcher 3 postponed indefinitely”, which sounds like the game is in development hell. I want to reiterate that this is not the case. There have been a lot of insinuations that we are going to launch the game in June next year or something. This is absolutely not the case.”
Nowakowski then explained that the announcement clearly spoke of having moved development and that the game will be finished internally. The fact that no exit period has been announced is due to the need to evaluate the timing to close the project. “No one said that the game was postponed to the Greek calends. That’s all I can tell you about next-generation Witcher, but I wanted to emphasize this fact.”
In fact, CD Projekt’s announcement seems to have been misinterpreted, probably because many don’t know how video game development works.
Be that as it may, removed the project from the hands of the Russian offices of Saber Interactive, probably because of the ongoing war, it is natural that the new team that will have to deal with it needs some time to study what has been done by colleagues.
Adam Kicinski, the CEO of CD Projekt, explained, in a speech following that of Nowakowski, that there is not much work left to do and that closing The Witcher 3 for PS5 and Xbox Series X and S will take care of a team of about fifteen people, plus some external developers. In addition, having brought the development in-house will not affect cd Projekt Red’s other projects.
