Through Famitsu, we can find out how many PS5 units have been sold in Japan, calculated until April 3, 2022. The Sony home console was able to exceed 1.5 million units, in about a year and a half. PS4, in a similar period of time, had recorded very similar numbers.
Precisely, according to Famitsu, PS5 sold a total of 1,528,183 units. Recall that those of the Japanese newspaper is not always accurate figures until the last unit, but the potential error is certainly less than 28,000 units, so we can consider this small milestone achieved.
To give you a point of comparison, you should know that PS4 – after a similar period of time (ie in July 2015, since PS4 arrived in Japan in February 2014) – had been able to sell about 1,480,000 according to Famitsu data.
It therefore seems that PS5 is maintaining a good pace, also considering that this beginning of generation has been plagued by production limits. Obviously the success of PlayStation 5 is nothing compared to Nintendo Switch, but these are still positive numbers for Sony, considering the recent past of the brand in Japan.
