Windows 11 Dev/beta preview version 22593 released

Microsoft today released the latest Windows 11 preview version Build 22593. For Dev and Beta channels. Brings some feature improvements, bug fixes, and more.

Here are the highlights:

  • Microsoft has received a lot of feedback on desktop watermarks from Windows Insiders in the Beta channel. It is normal to see this watermark on the user’s desktop after updating to the latest preview version. It does not change the permissions of the user’s device. Note, however, that these are preview builds and do expire, so it’s important for users to stay updated with the latest version released by Microsoft.
  • This release includes only a handful of changes and improvements but includes a nice set of fixes that will improve the overall experience for beta testers on their devices.
  • Microsoft has also added some new known issues.

Changes and Improvements

General

  • [Reminder] As described by Microsoft, Windows Insiders using the Dev channel may try out new ideas, long-term leading features, and experiences that may never be released. In this build, a small number of beta testers will be the first to see these experimental features, as Microsoft explores more ways to help people discover and quickly access the content they care about on the web through the Windows search box.
  • Updated WIN+X to include a Terminal entry in the menu if Windows Terminal is installed, and Windows PowerShell if Windows Terminal is uninstalled.

File Explorer

  • The default home page for File Explorer is now called Home. The name Quick Access has been re-used for the Pinned/Favorites section, and pinned files are now called Favorites to align with Office and OneDrive.
  • Recent and pinned files displayed on the home page can now be searched using the search box in File Explorer, even if they are not local files, so users can find Office files recently shared with them.

Enter

  • Microsoft Journal is now pinned to the pen menu by default. If the user does not have the app installed, select it on the pen menu and it will be installed from the Microsoft Store.

Windows

  • If you press WIN+Z to open the snap snapshot layout, all layouts now display the associated numbers, so the user can quickly use the number keys to select the desired layout.

Focus

  • Added 5-minute increments to everything under half an hour in the Focus Session Length option.

Windows Security

  • Memory Integrity is a feature in Windows 11 designed to prevent attacks that insert malicious code into high-security processes. This feature can be found in Windows Security under Device Security > Core Isolation. In a recent Insider preview build, Microsoft will notify users that the feature is currently off, so that action can be taken to get users to turn it back on to keep their devices as safe as possible from malicious attacks.

  1. Right Alt + \ will now enter »
  2. Right Alt + | will now enter «
