Spotify is working to enhance the activity of users of the popular streaming platform who make and share playlists. The goal is to give more visibility to the most popular ones, placing them on the main screen of the app. The Company has confirmed that these are tests still in progress, activated in selected markets, but does not specify which ones they are.
The playlists worthy of occupying a more prominent position are those coming from Curators, users and influencers who are particularly active in the research and selection of the contents to be included in the playlists. Spotify also selects them taking into account how many followers they have, the popularity of their playlists, and the ability to offer added value through them:
The curators we have selected are either music lovers with established followers and popular playlists on Spotify, or they are users who tell unique stories through playlists and create authentic connections with other users.
Giving more relevance to these particular selections of content made by the authors is a good way to avoid them being recoverable exclusively through research.
The tests demonstrate Spotify’s constant attention to playlists, one of the pillars of the platform. The recent launch of Blends, the function that allows you to create collaborative playlists, goes in the same direction: ten users join a group and Spotify automatically generates a playlist based on the preferences of individual participants.
For now, Spotify talks about a test valid for a limited period of time, at the end of which it will probably decide whether or not to extend the function to a greater number of markets.
