According to the latest report, Microsoft is planning to expand the Xbox Game Pass service. Reports say Microsoft is considering a custom family plan for the program, with plans to go live sometime this year.
First, paying a higher tier for the Xbox Game Pass family plan will give 5 players access to the entire game library, and will be significantly cheaper than paying 5 separate XGP accounts today. It will use the Microsoft Family Account system in Office 365 to monitor account holders. The service will be limited to account holders in the same country.
Reports say Microsoft had plans for it at a very early stage. Article author Jez Corden wrote:
At this point, I’ve long heard that Microsoft wants to create a family plan, although there are still some details to work out, like how royalties will be distributed, and how third-party publishers will be reimbursed for licensing users who aren’t part of the master plan.
According to reliable sources familiar with Microsoft’s work, we can now confirm that Xbox is moving forward with the Xbox Game Pass family plan, which should launch sometime this year.
