After the official release of Chrome 100, the Google browser team focused development on the Chrome 101 version, which was released today in Beta. The Federated Credential Management API (FedCM) was introduced in Chrome 101 Beta as an initial test for privacy protection.
The main changes in Chrome 101 Beta are as follows:
- As a pre-trial, the Federal Credentials Management API (FedCM) is coming soon. Described as “Privacy-Preserving Identity Federation, this new API is designed to allow Identity Federation to continue to allow use cases without the need for cross-site trackings, such as third-party cookies. Pre-trial for v101 is only available for Android users, while desktop support is Expected to appear in Chrome 102.
- Priority hints as a way of indicating the relative importance of resources to the web browser. Priority hints can in turn give more (or less) priority when loading different assets.
- The font-palette CSS property now allows developers to choose a palette from colored fonts.
- Support for the hwb() CSS function for specifying Hue Whiteness and Blackness (HWB) values for sRGB colors.
- MediaCapabilities API support for WebRTC streams.
- Added support for Secure Payment Confirmation API v3.
- USBDevice now has a forget() method that actively revokes permissions on USB devices.
- WebSQL for 3rd party contexts has been removed, ten years after the WebSQL database standard was abandoned.
