Google code shows that Android is expected to have built-in Bluetooth tracker detection

As devices such as Tile trackers and Apple AirTags become more popular, Google may integrate Bluetooth tracker detection into Android to prevent users from being tracked.

According to 9to5Google, Google’s Android team has started developing tracker detection in Play Services. The latest APK code includes references to Tile trackers and “ATags” (possibly AirTags) and hints that Android users will be able to alert on detected devices.

The feature is in the early stages of development, and it may take a while for Google to release it publicly. If the feature does roll out, we should learn more at I/O in May. Apple released AirTag in April last year and introduced a variety of detection methods to prevent tracking.

The AirTag will play an audible reminder after being separated from the owner for 24 hours, and iPhone users will also be able to receive a notification. However, Android users don’t seem to be able to receive similar notifications, and Google’s new feature is expected to make up for this shortcoming.
