Earlier this month, benchmarking app Geekbench removed some Samsung Galaxy S series phones (including the latest S22 series) from the list because its game optimization service limited the phone’s CPU and GPU. performance.
Today, Geekbench co-founder John Poole claimed on Twitter that Xiaomi also appears to be throttling performance based on the name of the app. Poole said that disguising Geekbench as Fortnite caused the Mi 11’s single-core performance score to drop by 30% and multi-core performance score by 15%.
Poole posted comparative data. As you can see from the chart, the data has dropped from 1129 and 3714 to 791 and 3125. In addition, Poole claims that when Geekbench disguised itself as Genshin Impact, there was a similar drop in scores.
Samsung’s statement in response to the question was that it did this to increase battery life and prevent the phone from overheating. However, the benchmarking app was not affected by this limitation, which led Geekbench to delist its phones.
It is worth mentioning that Samsung recently released an update for the S22 series. After the update, the game does not limit CPU/GPU performance at the beginning and provides an “alternate game performance management mode” in the game booster, which also allows third-party applications. The program bypasses the game optimization service.
Xiaomi officials have not yet responded to the test results.
