Valve announced today that it will be adding a new feature to Steam Deck – the option to provide feedback, to collect feedback by asking players directly about the experience. Valve says this is an opt-in feature: we only ask you once if you’d like to answer the question, and you can opt-out at any time.
New on Steam Deck: Option to provide feedback
We’re adding a new feature to Steam Deck today that supports the collection of player feedback by asking you questions about your experience directly. (This is an opt-in feature: we only ask you once if you’d like to answer the question, and you can opt-out at any time.)
The first data collected in this way is related to games verified through Steam Deck. We’re able to gather objective data (crashes, etc.) to help us understand how the inspection process is performing technically, but Deck’s compatibility rating is ultimately about the overall experience: successfully enabling current and future Deck users to find what they’re looking for Experience, this is considered “well done”. We want to make sure we do that or find out which pieces make your experience what you expected.
Mode of operation
After playing a game on Deck, you might see this question: “Can we occasionally ask for your feedback?”. Your decision to participate or not will be saved in the new “Ask My Feedback” option in your Steam Deck Account Preferences, and you can change it at any time.
Opting into the system answers “yes,” which means Deck can start asking you questions directly about the experience. For example, after playing a “verified” title, we might ask you whether the rating matches your previous experience with the game:
Steam Deck has been out for a month, but we’re just getting started. As more and more customers get the Deck, data from those players who have opted in (combined with all other feedback and data sources) will help us understand how we can best improve the overall experience.
