Yesterday, rumors emerged that they wanted Samsung to work on a rollable smartphone or on a third folding smartphone to be brought to the market already this year and this alleged device had been identified as Project Diamond, however today at least this last part has been denied: this code name would be used internally for the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S23 flagship.
Project Diamond: who is behind this Samsung?
The initial rumor was put out by Ice Universe, a well-known and generally reliable tipster; not long after, however, the tweet had been removed, demonstrating the inaccuracy of the information contained therein.
Shortly before the cancellation, the tweet had attracted the attention of Ross Young, display expert and CEO of Display Supply Chain Consultants (DSCC), who had taken steps to correct the shot: Project Diamond would not correspond to the first rollable smartphone from Samsung, indeed the codename would be used internally to refer to Samsung Galaxy S23.
In summary, also for this year, the manufacturer should remain faithful to the line-up consisting of two foldings, or by the successors of the excellent Samsung Galaxy Z Fold3 5G and Samsung Galaxy Z Flip3 5G.
We hear Samsung’s Project Diamond is the S23…Doesn’t look like a 3rd foldable device this year. But now we know what S23 is called internally…

In short, although in recent weeks we have seen how Samsung is reflecting on the most extreme form factors, from this information it seems to be possible to deduce that the rollable smartphone is not yet ready for the market. That said, the South Korean manufacturer is not the only one to think of a solution of this type: just over a year ago, OPPO had left everyone stunned with the OPPO X 2021 prototype, which at the moment has remained so.
As for the Galaxy S23 series, that the Samsung team is working on it is not surprising, but it is so early that it makes no sense to talk about it already: the Galaxy S22 series has practically just arrived on the market.
