Sony Xperia has been confirmed as the official smartphone partner of the PUBG Mobile 2022 Global Championship. Sony will be offering its flagship machine to pro players around the world at the upcoming tournament.
This year the organizers will hold more tournaments in more regions so that more people have the opportunity to compete, among which there will be two big events, the 2022 PUBG Mobile Global Championship and the mid-year event (the details of the latter will be very disclosure soon).
Player experience has always been a top priority in PUBG MOBILE esports, so a partnership with Sony’s Xperia feels natural and confident. We look forward to seeing our players use their Xperia flagships in this year’s global tournaments The series showed a stronger performance,” said James Yang, Director of Global Esports at PUBG Mobile.
You might not think of the Sony Xperia 1 III and Xperia 5 III as gaming phones, but Sony actually put a lot of effort into making them gaming phones. Engineers have been consulting professional esports players since the Mark II generation. They even recorded the player’s finger movements and replicated and analyzed them with AI to help them fine-tune the display.
Sony’s flagship phone screens have touch sampling rates of 120 and 240Hz. There are also features like “L-gamma booster” that boost the brightness of shadows (without disturbing the rest of the image), making it easier for players to spot enemies hiding in the dark. It will be interesting to see if the rules of the game allow for this and Sony’s other game-specific tweaks, though.
