New life is coming for Google Pixel and Google Pixel XL, the first two smartphones with which Google marked the transition from the Nexus series to the Pixel series: for them the LineageOS 18.1 based on Android 11 is available.
The two smartphones, presented in 2016 with Android 7.1 Nougat on board, saw the end of official support, by the parent company, with the update to Android 10, the last official major update received.
Google Pixel and Pixel XL receive LineageOS 18.1
LineageOS is one of the most popular custom ROMs in the Android landscape and is available for various smartphones. Although the latest version of the LineageOS is number 19, based on Android 12, the development team has released the LineageOS 18.1 based on Android 11 for the early Google Pixel (codenamed sailfish ) and Pixel XL (codenamed marlin).
For the record, we point out that the two smartphones were among the first to receive the LineageOS 17.1 based on Android 10. Among the known ROM bugs, mainly problems with the “Hey Google” feature are reported.
