Google has introduced a new sidebar feature in the Chrome browser that gives you quick access to your bookmarks and reading list while using the desktop browser. Previously, enabling the reading list was via a button on the bookmarks bar, and not everyone has it enabled.
Clicking on the side panel button, which looks like a rectangle with a shaded portion on the right, will show or hide the panel. Once you have it turned on, you can access the same Reading List features as in the legacy UI, including adding the page you’re currently on to your list, marking items as read, or deleting them. You can also switch to the Bookmarks tab to browse your saved pages.
It’s a nice change for users who want easy access to their reading lists and bookmarks, but don’t want the bookmarks bar to be there forever. Clicking this button brings up the sidebar, set to the last tab you left, and then you can easily hide it when you enter the site you want. If you’re using the latest Chrome 99 update, the reading list should be available.
