Ubisoft is said to be working on a new Prince of Persia, according to well-known insider Tom Henderson, “inspired by Ori” according to information released by the journalist, although there is no more precise information at the moment.
Responsible for development would be the Ubisoft Montpellier team, with the support of other internal studios, therefore it would not be the already announced remake of Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time, but something completely new and obviously also different from how the series was structured over the years with the transition to 3D.
The fact that the new Prince of Persia is inspired by Ori suggests a 2D game, or a return to the origins of the series, probably with a Metroidvania -style approach in this case.
For the rest, Ori and Prince of Persia are very different games, so it remains to understand how the inspiration can be associated with the Ubisoft series, but a return to the original structure could have excellent applications in the Metroidvania field.
The new Prince of Persia would be one of the 20 games in development at Ubisoft, many of which should be announced or presented during the alleged pre-E3 event of the French company that has leaked in the rumors these days. Other games should also include The Crew 3 and Assassin’s Creed Rift, as well as a sequel to Immortals: Fenyx Rising. In the meantime, nothing is known about the remake of Prince of Persia, which according to the latest unofficial information has been postponed indefinitely.
