Developer Lucas Brooks recently discovered an Easter egg in Windows 1.0: a list of developers involved in developing the operating system. He tweeted: It’s well hidden, they put encrypted data at the end of a bitmap file (smiley bitmap) and there was no tool to extract bitmaps from NE at that time. Even if someone managed to extract bitmaps, they also don’t notice the extra data at the end.
Interestingly, some netizens found that the same easter eggs were also preserved on Windows 2.x. Without a doubt, the funniest name on the developer roster revealed by this Easter egg is Gabe Newell, the man who brought us Steam. While Newell is best known for being Valve’s president, he’s actually a former Microsoft employee, as he worked for the software giant from 1983 to 1996.
