After seven years of beta testing, Google Domains, the domain name registration service owned by Google, finally announced its official launch today. The service has now been launched in 26 countries and regions around the world, and the company said it currently has millions of registered active users.
Registering a domain name through the Google Domains service allows you to choose from over 300 different domain endings, use “high-performance DNS” (Google means using the same infrastructure as its own service), and 24/7 customer support from a human agent, etc. Google is also offering a 20% discount for new and existing customers, use the discount code DOMAINS20 to register a domain name or transfer to Google Domains.
However, if you register a domain name with Google Domains, you still need to actually build a website to use it. Google unsurprisingly recommends its Google Sites products, but it also recommends its “Premium Partners,” which include Wix, Shopify, Squarespace, Weebly, and Bluehost.
Google Domains has been in development for a very long time, it first launched an invite-only beta in June 2014, and opened a public beta in the US in January 2015.
