When will we see Mario Kart 9? After all, Mario Kart 8 is now 8 (!) years old. Not before 2024, as Mario Kart 8 Deluxe for the Nintendo Switch remains extremely successful and that’s why Nintendo has announced a DLC with tracks.
Mario Kart 8 Deluxe gets new DLC
In the coming months, we’ll see 48 new tracks coming to Mario Kart 8, they’re re-imagines of old tracks designed with a minimal amount of effort (Nintendo has outsourced that to a third party).
If you want the new routes, you have to book the booster route pass, which starts on March 18 (i.e. on Friday). It is the first of 6 waves, each containing 8 new routes. There is no date for the other 5 waves yet.
How do you get the new routes? You can buy the booster track pass for a one-time fee of 24.99 euros or book it on Nintendo Switch Online (however, the tracks are only available with the expansion pass). The price is actually very fair.
I just think it’s a shame that we’re not getting any new characters or other extras for Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, just tracks. As fair as the price is, as a gamer from the start (with Wii U), I would have liked to have seen more.
But since we play a lot of Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and I know and love pretty much all parts of the series, I will of course get the booster track pass. Like many other of the almost 45 million buyers (this will be extremely lucrative for Nintendo).
