Google Pixel 6 and Google Pixel 6 Pro owners disappointed by the delay in the release of the latest update are probably breathing a sigh of relief, yes, because in the midst of so much news – Android 12L, Feature Drop for Pixels and security patches March 2022 – there was no shortage of flaws: if on the one hand, Big G confirmed that it had solved a problem, many users are reporting the presence of a worse one concerning Google Pay.
And the problem described below is not the only one either: we told you about the annoying bug on Pixel 5 and previous models with the physical fingerprint reader on the back.
The March update “breaks” Google Pay on some Pixels
Having bought a Google Pixel smartphone and finding yourself having a problem concerning a Big G service must be very frustrating, especially if the service in question is as important as Google Pay .
Not a few users, mainly owners of Google Pixel 5 , Google Pixel 4a and Google Pixel 4a 5G , are reporting on Reddit the appearance of notifications like the one you see in the following screenshot. In other words, the smartphone would not comply with the Google Pay software standards and, as a result, the user is precluded from contactless payments, leaving the service available only for those online.
The causes, according to the notice, would be to be found in the use of a smartphone with root or with non-certified software running; for this reason, users are encouraged to contact the manufacturer or visit Google Pay Help.
Too bad the problem arose a few days after installing the latest official software update. And, above all, it is a pity that after visiting the suggested page and following the instructions therein, the users involved have come to exclude the causes indicated by the Big G notification.
In particular, the user jockerer23, owner of a Pixel 5, told his anything but a rosy adventure with the smartphone: in the past, he had found himself with the Widevine L3 certified smartphone (precisely with the March update, as we told you, this problem has been solved) and now he cannot use it for contactless payments, despite having only installed official builds, not even having installed less stable beta builds and not having even tried to unlock the bootloader.
The carbonatedair user with his Pixel 4a also denies the Google Pay notification: his smartphone is seen as safe by Google Play Protect, has no apps installed from sources outside the Google Play Store, has NFC enabled, Google Pay is not in beta and the software has not been modified in any way.
In short, it is the case that the Google team intervenes and quickly: first of all by solving the problem and allowing users to take full advantage of the smartphone purchased, and then by providing an explanation of what happened.
The clock on the lock screen: problem solved
For a problem – clearly more serious and disabling – caused, there is another one solved by the Mountain View team with the new update released in recent days.
We had already talked about the possibility of changing the style of the clock shown on the lock screen of Google Pixels updated to Android 12 in a previous dedicated article.
Well, this time we are not moving in the field of indiscretions, but in that of official solutions: just three days ago a Community Manager of the Google forum replied to a post – actually very old, dated 1 November 2021 – of a user who asked how to change the style of the clock on the lock screen on Android 12, not appreciating the default one which shows the numbers of hours and minutes on two different lines; after the march update, simply go into Settings, select Display and then Lock screen and finally disable the Double-line clock toggle.
