Final Fantasy 14 is one of those many titles that received the ok from Steam Deck, the new Valve branded laptop that arrived in the homes of gamers only a few days ago, after months of waiting. The title worked normally, at least until a few hours ago: it seems that recently this is no longer able to run on the new “console”. But what happened?
Right now, if you try to start the game on the Steam Deck, it will not be able to go beyond the home screen: Final Fantasy 14 will in fact remain stuck on the logo, preventing it from starting completely. This is not a problem with the laptop, nor with your connection: the reason is due to the latest update regarding the management of your game accounts.
Let’s go in order: recently, Square Enix made it mandatory to link your account with that of Steam for security reasons. For this reason, when you try to start the game, there is now an additional launcher that starts with the title; on PC there is no kind of problem while appearing on the Steam Deck the situation is rather difficult to solve, resulting in a block that makes it impossible to actually play Final Fantasy 14.
At the moment the game on Steam is marked as unsupported on Steam Deck, but surely in the next patches, this problem will be fixed in order to allow players to return to their favorite MMO again via the new laptop. While we wait for more news from Square Enix, did you know that the trial of the game is back to being free only a few weeks ago, after months of waiting?
